Exploring Industry City with Like A Local Tours: A Content Creator Group’s Adventure

This month, ten content creators joined us for a delicious and exciting Networking & Content Tour through Industry City in Brooklyn. The creators didn’t know each other beforehand, but after just 3 hours together, there were already plans being made for meetup #2! They came from different niches, and were varying in account size, but all came together over their love of food & innovation in NYC (just like us!).
Our Industry City / Brooklyn Design Center Food & Maker Tour offered the perfect collection of spaces to bring the group to while they got to know each other and shoot really awesome content. This tour offers a behind-the-scenes experience of the creative and culinary gems within this vibrant hub. Groups get to visit with local artisan makers, taste some of the best Brooklyn bites, and learn about the innovation & growth happening at IC.
From artisan pastries to unique chocolate truffles, attendees on the networking and content tour got a taste of the local flavor and stories that make Industry City a must-visit destination for both creators and foodies. The tour was held on International Women’s Day, so we were sure to highlight some amazing woman-owned businesses too. Here’s a rundown of the incredible stops along our Content Creator Tour!

Our first stop was Colson Patisserie for flaky mouth watering croissants. Founded in 2006, Colson Patisserie brings a taste of Belgium and France to Brooklyn with their artisan pastries. Their attention to detail and use of high-quality ingredients make them a favorite among some of NYC’s top coffee shops and hotels. We love them for their commitment to the community, and their partnership with Hotbread Kitchen’s Quality Job’s Initiative to help bring more jobs to more people in accessible ways.
Next, we visited the fascinating Morbid Anatomy Library and Gift Shop, a woman-owned space dedicated to the intersection of art, death, culture, and the occult. Created by Joanna Ebenstein in 2007, Morbid Anatomy started as a blog and quickly grew into a captivating resource for those interested in the macabre. The library offers a unique collection of books, art, artifacts, and curiosities that invite exploration. Whether you’re into death rituals or historical oddities, this stop is perfect for those looking to add a touch of the unusual to their content. With rare and magical items for sale, content creators had plenty to capture from this quirky and fascinating destination. The Library/Shop Manager, Charlotte, gave us a warm welcome and invited is to peruse and have our hands free to touch the knick knacks.

No NYC tour is complete without a slice of pizza. Table 87 is a family-owned business established in 2012. They revolutionized Brooklyn pizza with coal-oven slices. We enjoyed their signature Margherita pizza, a simple yet delicious classic that has earned its place in the Brooklyn pizza scene.
For our non-dairy guests, we subbed pizza for tacos from Taco Mix, a beloved NYC spot serving up tacos since 1991. Taco Mix blends authentic Mexican flavors with global influences, creating a fusion that’s both unique and mouthwatering. With its diverse menu and rich cultural roots, Taco Mix offered another great opportunity for our creators to capture the spirit of NYC’s dynamic food scene.
Li-Lac Chocolates offered a perfect cap to our first tastings. We tasted assorted truffles and buttery crunch toffee squares. We heard many audible “mmMMm’s” at this one.
A moment to let our eyes do the devouring at Brooklyn Made was next up. A woman-led shop, supported by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, that embodies the borough’s diverse culture through locally-made products, the store showcases a wide range of unique creations from designers, makers, and entrepreneurs, especially from communities of color. With products reflecting Brooklyn’s rich cultural history, the Brooklyn Made store allows creators to shop for exclusive, locally-sourced items that embody the borough’s innovative spirit. We were fortunate enough to hear directly from 8 of the talented makers. We enjoyed samples of delicious Brooklyn Roasting Company Coffee and Auria’s Malaysian Kitchen Salted Caramel Kaya spread (to name a few). Many of the content creators chatted directly with the entrepreneurs, taking inspiration from their stories in their own entrepreneurial journeys.
Be sure to check out these fabulous local brands yourself:
- Cantina Royal
- Auria’s Malaysian Kitchen
- Avalah
- Body by Love
- Local Beast
- Harissa Hot Honey
- Julie Mollo
- Kwitations
- Claudia Pearson
- Brooklyn Roasting
Still room for one more tasting more, we headed to Sahadi’s, a beloved family-owned market with NYC history dating back to 1895,. There, we enjoyed falafel and hummus platters. This local institution, originally from Manhattan’s Little Syria, moved to Brooklyn in 1948 and has been a staple ever since. Known for its vast selection of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern foods.
Rue du Paradis, a woman-owned business, offers workshops to sew your own high-end lingerie, tailored to every unique body. The brand prides itself on celebrating diversity and gender positivity, crafting luxurious pieces from French lace that fit and flatter every body type. For those interested in fashion and personal expression, this stop was an inspiring opportunity to create content that showcases beauty and empowerment. The energy and excitement in that room was palpable, and many creators discussed returning soon to complete a workshop together.
We wrapped up the day with a stop at Barrow’s Intense NY Tasting Room, where we learned about the fermenting process and got to taste their iconic ginger liqueur (and non-alcoholic ginger hibiscus syrup for non-drinkers). Barrow’s Intense is crafted from fresh ginger, offering a bold, pure flavor that has earned the brand multiple accolades. A few among us actually purchased a bottle to bring home and couldn’t wait to mix up a delicious drink with it!
Conclusion
Our experience on the Industry City / Brooklyn Design Center Tour was a truly special experience, offering participants a chance to network with one another while exploring one of Brooklyn’s most dynamic creative hubs. From delicious pastries to artisan chocolates, local pizza to custom lingerie, Industry City is a treasure trove of content-worthy experiences. Whether you’re a photographer, influencer, or simply a lover of great food and culture, this tour has something for everyone.
